The English language is nobody's special property. It is the property of the imagination: it is the property of the language itself. Said the 1992 Nobel Prize in Literature, Nobel lariats Derek Walcott the Professor of Poetry at the University of Essex said in a private discussion with students.

Today, when I teach in university I find many Professors using bad or labored English. It is pity that when you teach Business Communication based on your English language learning, reading, writing and listening ability and at other end you nonchalantly make silly mistakes you in your communication.

I find there are glaring examples where even big professors make mistakes.

A great many - You use a good many or a great many to emphasize that you are referring to a large number. It is an American way of speaking.

Very many - to use it in sentence we need quantifiers. If we have quantifiers then it can be used.

A lot many (correct) – Whenever we use a lot (a bulk or a chunk) it has to be ‘a lot’.

Lot many books I have purchased (wrong) it has to be ‘a lot of books’

-See the beauty of English Language-

I am citing some examples which read singular but they mean plural.

Many a great individual has made the same mistake. (Here the use is plural but it reads singular)
Many an individual has come for concert. (again I have used it as a plural but it reads singular)
Many a flower has blossomed in my garden ( it is correct)
The other day when I was strolling through a renowned university campus, I stuck upon a notice board just outside the main garden.

I challenge all the NET SET holders and PHD holders to find the mistake.

I literarily gave this challenge but no one could yield a digestible answer. The mistake is , how can you use word ‘revenge’ is a verb, when you have the   noun ‘avenge’.

I remember the interview of Wilhelm von Humboldt a great soul who spoke about the use of language. I wonder; when nowadays most of the nouns are getting used as a verb and verbs for adjectives. The grammar teachers will go crazy and students will get confused.
Language is “the infinite use of finite means.” Once Wilhelm von Humboldt said, he was a Prussian philosopher, linguist, government functionary, diplomat, and founder of the Humboldt University of Berlin, which was named after him in 1949.
